Where the money goes

SaaS scales every cost component by 1x versus the SaaS baseline. Engineer rate is $120/hr fully loaded. Support tickets cost $25 each. LTV comes from ARR divided by MAU.

This excludes legal fines, PR spend, and executive time. For regulated industries, actual cost runs higher.

How this works?

How the calculator turns your production context into a dollar cost per bug.

Engineering time to fix

We apply a severity profile to estimate base engineer hours, then adjust for whether a rollback is possible. Hours are priced at a fully-loaded senior engineer rate, not scaled by industry.

Support ticket volume

Each severity level generates a different ticket rate per 10,000 users. We multiply by your MAU and the cost to handle each ticket, scaled by industry multiplier.

Churn and reputation damage

User churn is estimated from the severity churn percentage applied to MAU, valued at your per-user LTV derived from ARR. Reputation damage adds a severity baseline.

Total cost of the bug

Engineering plus support plus churn plus reputation plus outage revenue loss is the total cost. Industry multipliers reflect how sensitive your sector is to each failure type.

FAQs

It scales the user-facing cost components (support load, churn, reputation) to reflect how much your sector amplifies the impact of a production bug. Fintech (2.5x) and healthcare (3x) face stricter regulation and users with less tolerance for errors. SaaS is the baseline at 1x. Engineering hours are not multiplied since the fix itself takes the same time in any industry.
